Can I switch from a 18" Rim to a 16" Rim?

I have a 2006 F-350 FX4. It came with 18" rims but I'm finding there are more choices in tires in a 16" or 17" rim size. Can a 16" rim fit on this truck or would that be a big mistake.
Thanks!

16" rims won't fit over the brakes on 2005 and newer Superdutys, you must use at least 17" rims.
