If your Edge will retrieve codes, see what it has to say. From there, I am sure in the STICKY section you should find info on testing the FICM. Also, how are your batteries/alternator? A quick test at OReilly's could tell you that. Remember, if you need one battery, get both.

First of all, get the junk purolator filters out and install Motor Craft filters. Next, pull the valve like you intend and clean it but most likely you have an FICM issue. Needs to be checked with KOEO and then while cranking. Needs to be 46 volts or higher when cranking and do it when it's cold. If it's lower than 46, it will be a hard start or no start condition and cause it to run rough and chug like you're describing.

If you have a volt meter, you can check it for free. If not, it really needs to sit over night and be checked when cold.

the mechanic couldnt get to it....i have a volt meter at home but thats in va & I'm in florida...& now it even does it while its warm....its like when I get into 4th it jumps & bucks until it gets to about 2500 rpms then it smoothed out....as far as starting even when its in the 30s outside it starts easy (even without plugging it up...I'm lost I cant get home to my girls because its scaring me to drive 600miles home....

I had a similar problem on my 07. It would start rough and puff out a little white smoke with a heavy fuel smell and run rough until it warmed up. Turned out to be one bad injector and three injectors going downhill. Idk if this is solely an injector problem or something more. Going to pick her up today. So we'll see.

It also did the same thing with running rough until it hit about the 2500rpm range..
