Oil tests?

Figured this was the place to ask this question.

I had never heard of oil testing until I started reading this site and now curiosity has got me by the balls. What are these oil tests and how can I do them?

i havent done one yet, i just changed my oil this morning changed from regular Rotella to full synthetic T6 Rotella today and at 5k miles im going to send it in and see how it looks to find out how many miles i can run it, im hoping to be able to run it 10k miles since its in the 6.4 but im not gunna use blackstone labs im going to use a place in houston that my freind uses all the time

i plan on doing it every other oil change at the end of the change right before im going to swap it out,

the place in houston tx is quick and only about 25 bucks

Usually done at every oil change or when your due (i.e. pull a sample at 5,000 miles and send it to be tested. Depending on what the test results are will determine wether or not you should change the oil or wait for a later period..
I get my oil tests done @ the local CAT dealer. Costs me $16 per run.
