[quote=JayCarotenuti]What I do for a living is move 5th wheel trailers from here to everywhere. Of course my best advise for a 5th wheel is a long bed pickup. Or a flatbed with a 5th wheel if you are going to be doing lots of different trailers and lots of different terrane. The anwer to your question: Do not go the cheap route! Your life could depend on it. The auto slider is the way to go with a shortbed. There are some trailers that are setup so that you don't need that type of hitch such as with the Titainum. You need to make sure that you can move from straight to 90 degrees without coming in contact with the trailer. Keep in mind that you are not always on level ground Either the pullrite hitch or the reese will do. Make sure that the install is done by a qualified person. The right setup and you will enjoy the ride and have alot less problems. The 5th wheel is the only way to pull an RV as far as I am concerned. If you need the bed for anything else they are easily removable. Where the king pin is mounted on the trailer and where the hitch is mounted on the truck determines the ride. Don't install a hitch farther back to solve that problem!! [/ If anyone needs to convert a 5th wheel to a gooseneck type hitch I have a bolt on conversion I will sell. For not alot of money. Barely used. |

Hi there Jay C. Have you ever heard of Quality Drive-Away in Goshin, IN.? I submitted an application on line for them doing the same thing that you do for a living. Was wondering if you knew anything about them and how they were to pull for. Been delivering soft drinks for over 12 years now and am looking for a change of pace. (Getting older, ya know) Thanks. Deeno.

Driveaway
Hi Deeno, Good to hear from you. Answer to your question is yes, I know a few drivers that work for Quality. If you want to stay busy they will keep you runnin all over if you like. They are a well known company and have been in business for a long time. I recieved alot of motorhomes and trailers from there drivers when I worked for the RV dealer. Good company, definately worth looking into. I would like to use you myself if I had enough business to keep you runing. If you are interested in doing so extra work for me once in awhile contact me @ JayCar69@yahoo.com and we can work out the details. I am getting more work all the time I hope to get bigger soon. It is a long process getting started in my own bus. Thanks for the response.

Hey Deeno, I was just wandaring out in space and found this thread. If you are looking for work with your own truck, you can go to www.uship.com Its like ebay, accept your bidding on jobs. There are all kinds of people out there that need their crap hauled nationwide. |

About the same time you posted this I was making a run for Quality Drive Away on my vacation. I originally was going to do this part-time and try to keep my job with Dr. Pepper/Seven Up Bottling Group. Found out that I wouldn't have time to take a good $%@p if I attempted to do this So I decided to keep my job with the pop company. Been with them for 12 years so why leave now Anyway, thanks again for the info. Hope you can forgive me:pray:

PullRite Super Glide
The Pull Rite has worked well for me every time. One thing...... Once you install the PullRite adapter plate to the bottom of your king pin plate you will need another special adapter so you can be pulled by any generic 5th wheel hitch so don't forget to buy it. PullRite says 10 bolts min. to attach the PullRite plate iteself. Some have to weld as king plates are too small. With a weld your stuck... bolts take time to undo - bad if your on the shoulder of a hwy. If you hook up your rig with the PullRite plate attached to anything other than the Super glide hitch you will either bend the pin itself or scar it so you won't be able to re-hitch. The generic adapter is available from PullRite for about $150. Don't leave home without it if you choose PullRite.

I've been towing my 5-er a few times now. I wish I had spent the extra$$ on a Pullrite Superglide - but my slider hitch does the job very well. After all the labor to get the brackets cut/modified to fit with my airbags, I could've bought the Superglide! I have the Husky 16K w/slide. Nice hitch, but not a simple install if you have airbags already. Better to do the hitch frame kit first, then add your air bags if you want them. Or, better yet, use Timbrens. Another "wish I had done that!" topic.
PM me if you want more info on my experience. Good luck! 5-ers are awesome...
