This project with installation is probably going to run you around $1500, have you considered adding an overdrive unit? They cost twice as much but you can take them with you when you sell the truck. I tow quite a bit during the winter and I'm seriously considering adding one, its like running a double overdrive when your empty.
If you find the overdrive unit please post a link. I have been looking for one. I thought about going in that direction. That way wen I want to pull I still have my gears and when I am on a long trip I have the extra overdrive. It is like having the best of both worlds.

http://www.gearvendors.com/index.html not sure they list our application but I have spoken to them before and its available. Advanced Adapters also has one but I would steer you towards the gear vendors unit

That is an interesting unit. I calculated and with me currently having 3.73's I run 1827 rpms at 70mph. With this unit it would drop to 1415 rpms at 70mph. I am sure that would save some gas but I am curious how the truck will do at such a low rpm. Thanks for the link. I also calculated and if I changed to 3.55 gears it would be 1741 rpms at 70mph.

Thats pretty much the same as running a 36" tire with a 3.73 gear, the motor will pull it fine so long as your empty. Had 33s on my 04, turned around 1600 at 70, and I pulled a lot of weight behind that truck.

if all else fails and cost is a factor you might hit the bone yards and see what the going rate for a front and rear axle cost. or they might sell just the gears out of it. around here the yards will some times work with you like that.

These are all very good ways of accomplishing the same task. Here is the link for the calculator I have always used for calculating these types of things.
