F-250 vs F-350 towing

Does anybody know if a F-350 would tow better? Both are rated by Ford to be able to tow 12,500#

They are rated at 15200, or 15700 depending on configuration(5th wheel).

There a lot of things that make differences

Dually give more traction, and more stability, but not necessarily more wieght.

The rear axle makes ALL the difference!

3:73,4:10, or 4:33 (only available in one version of the F350)

For a MAX towing rating of about 18000 pounds!

Bob~!

Thanks, let me elaborate a little. I am replacing my 05 F-350 6.0 SRW regular cab. I have to choose between a 250 or 350. I tow construction equipment every day (conventional) 5th wheel is not an option. Dually is not an option. Generally I'll have 5 to 6 tons behind my truck and when my 6.0 is running right I'll gain speed uphill, with no sway above highway speeds. I just want to know if I'll loose some stability by dropping to a 250.

Well, it's not an issue of power. It's all in the frame and gearing. I've seen these engines put into straight-trucks/vans hauling up to (and maybe more than) 30,000 lbs!

The straight-trucks where I work weigh 12,500lbs. empty! They run DT466 engines (7.6L)

If your towing that much with a bumper pull trailer you will be better off with a 350. I would imagine that a 12,000 lb trailer is going to put enough load on the truck that overload springs will be necessary. You are also going to need the extra GVWR to be legal.

Depends upon the spring package that comes with your truck. I have the "camper package" on my F250... and I have the same 6 pack of springs that my friends dually has. It's actually 5 springs and an overload.

5tons = 10,000lbs and 6 tons = 12,000 lbs. Is this including the trailer or just the material?

I've had a GCVW of 17500 (my truck weighed right at 7500lbs at the time) and that was bumper pull - my truck hauled it just fine...

Ditto to MAintain!! They're gonna pull the same. Tongue weight is what's gonna hurt you unless you have a trailer package as maintain states.

Thanks guys, GCVW is around 14 to 14.8k. Just traded my 05 F-350 on an 08 F-350. Couldn't bring myself to drop to a 250. Camper package is the key, you can see where my 05 uses the aux. springs. Hope the 08 diesel is better than my 05 6.0. I'll let you know how she pulls
