Is registering your trailer in another state legal in yours?

I've seen some discussion about registering trailers "out of state", primarily Maine.
Do you do it?
Any hassles with law? Insurance?

That site looks more for commercial use. I register my semi trailers in my home state which cost around 20 bucks or so and are good for as long as I own the trailer, no recurring fees. My car trailer on the other hand cost around a 100 bucks each year to renew. Why would you want to register your trailer in Maine?

All depends where you live.
Mass. $270 for plates annually, $125 ,for inspection annually versus $99 for plate for 5 years and no inspection. Almost $2,000 difference.

ME likes to get your money without having your trailer there. We have trailers registered there only for $$ reasons
