Towing RPMs
I'm hoping some can chime in with thoughts on an optimal RPM while towing for MPG, egt, and not putting too much strain on an Auto tranny.
Thanks. |

What year are you looking at?
I pull with an '07 F350 with the 6.0L and 5R110, with 4.30's in the axles. Towing, I like to keep the tach somewhere in the 2000-2250 range cruising. What I use for my limitations on towing is my EGT and Trans Temp guages (aftermarket, not the factory monitor on the dash). If EGT nears 1100*, Oil or Coolant nears 220*, or Trans gets to 195*, I'm backing off or downshifting. |

With a 4R100, I like it about 2200 or so.
The trans will be fine, unless you start adding power beyond what it can hold. If it's a 4R, a valve body and a good trans cooler does wonders. |
