HELP!!! Goose Neck Hitch
Sorry for the long post!!!
okay guys i need help in a big way !! and all the part stores around here a f***ing clueless when it comes to trailers/hitches. i bought a hide-a-ball goose neck hitch, and i need a frame mounting kit. i bought the hitch from Princess Auto(harbour freight kinda deal). and noone can help me with finding a frame mounting kit. closest thing we could find was a Drawtite frame kit part No. 4403. i'v been searching ebay because i dont know were else to look. and google was no help to me just giving me pics, not part numbers or prices. Returning the hitch i bought is not an option (cost $200). but i'm kicking my butt now i didnt just got by the in bed hitches that have the rails, and you can use a goose hitch plate attached by 4 pins,($460 for the rails/frame kit/hitch plate) and have the option to use a 5th wheel hitch just by changing the hitch with 4 pins. i had a home made joby in the OBS. i didnt like how bulky and awkward it looked with C-channel and plate stuck in the bed. i'm debating just getting another home made one made, the two shops i went to today to see what kinda frame kit they could fab up for the hide-a-ball were of no help. and what they want to make me a home-made joby is a right around $300. any thoughts.... i NEED the hitch like this week/first of next. and money is tight for a few weeks. i do have an account at the local parts store tho if i could find a universel frame kit or a frame kit period through them that would work for the hide-a-ball hitch i have. |

Contact Cody Hitch, now...
Looks like you got sold 1/2 of a full kit. Like parts were robbed out of it, the dealer could not return it for credit missing parts, so you got stuck with it. Were there any install instructions, parts list, etc, included? "IF" not they could get themselves in serious legal trouble selling incomplete parts kits for vehicles intended for highway use. Nuff Fluff though.
Google 'Cody Hitch' as they have a good unit at a good price. Now, if you do not need the whole thing, perhaps just the end plates would adapt what you have, to what you need. Have installed several of their units, and I do have fabrication capabilities, but the factory units go in with no mods... If you have a Ford, or off brand truck,?, the main support bar/rail part must reach to the outside of frame rails. Then bolt/attach to the side plate, which is then bolted to the frame rail. Bottom line: Call Cody Hitch and buy just the side plates ("IF" they will sell them separate, due to legal issues,) and get 'em installed. Actually any competent hitch installer should be able to fab some 1/4" end plates, attach same to your 1/2 azzed setup, and you are good to go. Not meaning to be critical w/ the 1/2 azz thing, but there are no short cuts to be taken for the safety of you, your family, and the myriad of other vehicles on the road. Future truckers: Go high dollar with the B&W thing and others, or get a good hitch at a good price from Cody. On Google, Cody Hitch will show, but the selling dept has a diff name, but still the same thing. Just follow the link,s.. PS: Am here in So Calif should any locals need some fab work, shade tree type, in the shade of my 2 post lift...
