Got a problem, need a quick answer!

Got the 5'er. Got home with hitch in the back of the truck. Was going to have it put in on tuesday and go get camper this weekend BUT... Heres my problem. I have a short bed. Its not a slider hitch. I would hate to mount this sucker in, drill 8 holes in my bed, just to find out it wont work. Should i try to get 200 bucks for it and put it twords a slider model? I know i can mount the darn thing further back twords the rear of the truck, BUT what if we get rid of this bugger next year and get a 34ft fifth wheel where i need to have my weight over the rear axle? Any insight? Sliders are EXPENSIVE to boot. Seems like everything i get my money together for some gauges something comes up. Also do you all think a double pivot is worth it>

Doug

I just put a ball in a chevy 1500 gasser to pull my 31' 5er, last week. I bought a gooseneck with a 9" offset and it all worked well. The 9" is half the diff between a shortbed and longbed.

My bad, you are 5th wheel, I converted to gooseneck.

Does your camper have an extended pin box(The pin sticking out ahead of the camper itself) or is the pin under the camper. If its extended, you dont need a slider. I have yet to get into a situation where I needed one and I run a fixed reese hitch with mine.
