brake controller problem...

I'm having a problem with my Hayes Energizer III in my 03 F250. Recently, the braking action has become very weak... even adjusting the gain and maxing out the slider has little affect on the trailer brakes. I know its not the trailer as the brakes worked fine when hauled with another truck (Tow Command- 08 F350). Where is the best place to start troubleshooting?? Thanks.

If it used to work, Then I would check all wires. A loose connection will not allow the power to flow like it used to.

Lightbulb Wiring Harness - Brake ground and hot wire

Check the HOT wire (BLUE wire) for the brakes on the wiring harness at the back of the truck.. The this wire tends to get cracks in the insulation over time causing copper corrosion that eats away at the copper.. If the controller is unable to send adequate current to the brakes you could experience the problems noted in your thread.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check the blue wire for damage.

Had a similar problem with my controller. Solved the problem by running a much heavier gauge hot wire directly from the controller to the connector at the hitch.
