factory '08 trailer plug wiring
I have an '08 F350 and just put my old (very old) overhead camper on it for the first time (haven't towed with it yet either). I plug the camper in to the trailer plug for lights and power. in the bumper 7 blade I get brakes and turn signals only. in the goose neck plug in the bed, I get everything.
my main problem is, the constant hot works in both plugs, but only with the key on. that power runs the camper interior lights and water pump in camp. my old '97 F350 had power with the key off. is this how the plug is supposed to work? is there wiring close by that I can tap into so we can have running water and lights at night? side note- I don't get the trailer green light on the factory TBC (not towing, just camper plug in). is that because there needs to be the ball connection to ground it? it that maybe why I don't get clearance lights on the bumper plug? thanks! |

No green light on the brake controller with it being connected but the ball not on is a grounding issue. Get one of those trailer light checker plugs. They're cheap but they only work as long as the ground on the truck end is hooked up. I just use a voltage meter on each pin. As for another place to tap power from I have no clue since I'm running a 97.

I did use a meter on the pins. the ground is good in the plug, at least without a load. I've had them show good with the meter before and then lose ground when a load is placed on it.

I'd be checking out the camper ground. I've had loose ground wires do some funny stuff before.
