factory brake controller

I just bought an 08 f350 with the built in brake controller. Has anyone had any experience with using electric over hydraulic. I have had different answers. The ford dealer told it would work, The local trailer dealer said no. My boat trailer has this style and I want it to work for the weekend but the boat is at the dealer for some servicing. Any thought?

Well most boat trailers that I have seen have hydraulic surge brakes. This is due to submerging the electric components.

The advantage with electric is that you can controll it from inside the cab, Like in a fishtail situation. The hydraulic only activate when the trailer is moving faster than the truck, thus hitting the ball and activating the brake.

Just talked to the manufacturer of the brake controls on my trailer. The Ford controller won't work with my trailer. Wasted money!!! They said they had a fix for the 05-07 but Ford changed the controller in 08. Also said they will not have a fix anytime soon. Apparently Ford is not helping them. Ford needs to step up and correct this. Don't enjoy spending $600 for nothing and now I have to spend a couple hundred more to get my brakes to work.

Heads up to those who have the electric over hydraulic brakes on there trailer.
