Those MPG's sound about right ofr a stock truck while pulling. I'm only getting between 15 and 17 MPG average (at 8000lbs truck weight) without a load. I don't do too much towing so I dunno.

It really depends on alot of factors to what mileage you can acheive. 9.5 isnt that bad considering the trailer construction and load.

I have an aquaintance that has a F350 CC 4wd lifted to fit 35's and chipped with a Banks, pulls a larger trailer then me and averages 14 - 16 pulling. But he doesnt do the mountains like I do. There really is no definitive to what you will acheive pulling with chip. I would think you would do better then 9.5 though.

LHM - curious - but will towing a 5th Wheel trailer that isn't level affect mileage in a negative way? Curious as to how big a deal it is for me to fix this issue - just towed my 5th wheel for the first time this weekend and the truck is about 4" too high... throws the hole thing off level....

I dont know much about 5th wheel trailers - I know the drag created will negativly effect the mileage. Depending on how the trailer sits (in tow position) I suppose could effect mileage - but I cant imagine it making a huge difference. 1 or 2mpg I would think would be alot.

My trips are on average 1500 miles in 48 - 72 hours. 1mpg difference will make a difference on overall cost due to alot of miles traveled. The difference would be visible. But if it is a short trip - the mileage savings might not be as obvious.

Well the reason I asked is because I was driving against/perpendicular to the wind and it seemed to be catching more than usual... will have pics of my problem soon...

Well I was talking to fellow wheelers today, and they say to use OD, just stay above 70+mph where the rpm's are up, and the tranny isnt searching for gears.

Is using OD ok with this load, and if not, what is the highest recommended sustained rpm limit? Im driving in a caravan to colorado, and dont want to have to slow the group down....

mileage sounds about what I get .I use over drive when I know I can hold it and drop it down as I come to a grade or hit it to pass.

Well left St. Paul about 24 hrs ago, and now Im in brush, CO. My truck is getting 10.0 mpg overall, and I am in OD when going over 60, and not climbing major grades. The truck is doing great, but wants to outrun the motor homes Im cara-vanning with. It has an easier time doing 75+mph than staying in the 60-65mph range, where the motor homes like to be. I did, however, get sick of driving, and had to resort to letting my lil sis drive the truck...
