Brake Controllers

Anyone got any good mounting solutions for aftermarket brake controllers?

Specifically a Prodigy. Thought about using that rectangularish"cubby" hole right of the steering wheel since I never have anything in there, but wasn't sure if I could get the controllers bracket successfully fastened in there. I know angle of the Prodigy matters somewhat, but it'll be "level" enough and there aren't many big hills where I'm at.

Pics, or anything like that would help.

I don't think there is enough room for the bracket and controllor. Everyone i've seen has been mounted to the bottom of the dash just next to the removable cover for the fuses.

When we got our '99, it had a controller mounted in that pocket. They just drilled a hole in the back to run the wires in, and cut one of the ends of the mounting bracket off to make an "L" bracket. I don't know what they used to drill the holes to mount the bracket, but it fit nicely. I moved it to the little recess to the left of the as tray and made a panel to mount 6 rocker switches to put in the cubby hole for Strobes and work lights. It is possible, but will take some time. It looks pretty neat, also.

I'll see what I can come up with and post a picture whenever I get around to mounting a Prodigy up.. hopefully.

I just want it out of sight on a first glimpse, and so that it's not in a place so no one including myself can bump or kick it.

You guys just leave the controllers hooked up all the time?

No idea when I'll do this, just figure I get some research for now.

Looks like I'll need to make a "custom" bracket whenever I get the controller, which wont be hard. First of all.. my factory trailer brake wire harness isn't even hooked up to begin with, it's in my glove box in a bag with the relays and fuses.

I need to buy a Prodigy sometime, however I do have the Prodigy to Ford wire harness adapter.

Thanks for the info so far.

I used to have one on my old PSD. I used the plastic clip mount for it under the dash, not the metal bracket. It came with a zippered bag and when not in use it unplugs in about 2 seconds and I always stored it in the glove box. If you're good about hooking up the wires you can easily hide them too. Basically when I didn't have it hooked up you could hardly notice the bracket. Didn't even know it was there unless you really looked.
