towing with a lifted truck

I was thinking of lifting my truck, 2003 crew cab 6.0 long bed, but I want to buy a 5th wheel to tow. Will a 8" lift, front and back, be too high? Should I go with a 6" lift? Thanks

Good question, I have been told that 6" should be max for towing, and 35" tires are as big as you should go. I am now debating going from a 6" to an 8" lift, so I would like to hear what expierienced members have to say.

even with a 6" lift you will have to flip the axles on the trailor so it sort of levels off... my friend tows with a 8" and its too high.. everything in the trailor goes to the back lol....dont go over 8"

I have heard that you can go with a 4" with no problems. Higher than that, you have to do something else.

I have a 10" lift and 38's. I have a 14" drop hitch that gets the load pretty level on my 7'x14' dump trailer. it works fine but I can see where if you were to tow a very heavy load it wouldn't be ideal, but I have no problems.

the drop hitch works well but for 5th wheel towing a 10" lift would be impossible lol... man your truck must look sick....

Yeah, you need to put some pics up in your garage so we can check that thing out.

I wouldnt go over 4" of lift if I was towing a 5th wheel. If it was a flatbed then I might go with more lift. I would hate to smash my beautiful bed sides cus I had to much lift and had to go go over some rough terrain.

Reminds me of a story! Back in 1985 we had a customer bring in a stock, brand new, F 250. Wanted 6" removed from the top of the bed because his 5th wheel "rubbed" the bed on his steep driveway. We took the job and I used a sawzall to remove the 6" ( broke my heart!) all the way around, formed up some nice caps on the press brake and cleanly welded them in. Came out pretty good. I would never do that to mine, but the customer was happy!
