Which hitch?

When I got my PS, we were getting ready for vacation, so we slammed an inexpensive 5th wheel hitch in and headed out. I have been happy with this hitch so far, no problems. Recently, however, I have been considering a Goose neck hitch. They're rated for a little more weight, leave the bed open, and seem, in theory anyway, to allow hooking and unhooking when the trailer isn't quite level. Would there be any real advantage to the Goose neck over the 5th wheel hitch?( or disadvantage for that matter)

I don't think there is any advantage to the goose neck, unless you are pulling real heavy loads, but you can get just the head and connect it to the 5th wheel base rails if you so desire. You can also get the removable 5th wheel hitches that only leave the small holes in the box when removed as well. But if your trailer has a 5th set up, you will also have to get the adaptor leg for it to run as a goose neck, it all adds up to a chunk of cash by the time your done.

Gord.

I've got the adapter already. Just wondering if the performance was worth the expense of adding the hitch in the bed. I was also wondering why goose necks have a higher weight rating than a 5th wheel hitch?
