Air bags are good for load control, and will help keep the truck level while you have a load on the rear. They will not increase your load limit as far as the tire is concered. Think of the tire as the weak link. If your running a crap tire (say load range c or d) on an F-850 with air bags, 5th wheel etc, your still limited as to the weight that the TIRE will hold. Your best bet for proper towing would be getting the highest load range tire you can get and tow your load. Like I said, I have Load Range D tires, but I don't tow very often, if at all, (I've actually NEVER towed with my D tires. I have Load Range E TSL Mud tires for towing.) Seriously, it's time to plop the cash and get a set of E range tires, or better, F or G!!!!!!

I'd definitely recommend the air bags to level out the ride. They also dampen some of the bumps a bit, as well and with 14k, you certainly notice those bumps... Also, you might consider Toyo's, but they can get pricey. Even Nitto's are offered in load range E, but you'll have to step up to a 20 inch rim (not likely, I'm thinking) or go with a 60-series tire. Obviously going with a smaller tire will give less sidewall deflection, resulting in more load bearing capability. Hope this helps.

It strickly depends on how much tongue weight you have with D tires. I have towed 16k with a gooseneck, 10% load on the truck (rougly 1600lbs of tongue weight). This isn't much weight for load range D. I traveled round trip 12 hours only stopping to refuel and had no problems. I have towed as much as 18k with this setup for about 3 hours and had no problems. I pull pools for a living. I have 305's with a load range D. I pull from w. virginia to Michigan very often and have had no problems in the 100,000 plus miles I have used D range tires. ( cooper s\t)
