1997 powerstroke 7.3 upgrades

I have a 97 PSD and i need more power for towing.it has 120,000 on it and i bought it new.5speed manual tranny.Were to start.

i would start with a good chip (i have a TW and it is great, check them out at totaldieselperformance.com) and exhaust and see how it does for you.

down pipe, exhaust and intake, then get gauges before you get a tony wildman or dp tuner chip, if your clutch is good you should have some good towing power

For a good tow rig Id look into

3" DP and exhaust
do a DIY intake
guages
good custom tunes
intercooler
stage 1 injectors

then go from there, what kind of budget are you lookin at?

i forgot that the obs' didnt come with intercoolers, that would be a good addition to a tow rig, and the stage 1 injectors would be nice too, just make sure your turbo is in good shape before the injectors

with an intercooler the stage 1s will work real nice with a stock turbo, but yes make sure the turbo isnt ready to take a dump

Yea when you have the intake pulled off just check and see what kind of shape the compressor wheel is in, and if theres any side to side or up front to back play in the shaft.
