And when you are ready a chip will be nice to have but you are looking at $400+. I would suggest sticking to a ts style chip since there are a bunch of tuners out there now that can put their custom (ish) tunes on that chip. if you pick DP only DP can tune your chip. I chose a TS for this reason. I picked the wrong tuner and since I have a TS chip I can take it else where when I am ready to change my tunes and finally iron out the whacky things my truck does.

We've got a 2001 DRW 2wd with 3.73s. The only mods are a K&N kit and a superchip set to the tow setting. I usually run about 70 with it and the cruise is broke. Pulling a 48ft mobile kitchen at about 22k I get about 10mpg with it. Empty I get about 20mpg. I am a firm believer that the chip is one of the best investments for the truck you can make. If you crank it all the way up you lose mileage but on the lowest setting you will gain power and fuel efficiency. -Schnot |

Well if you crank the superchip all the way you might lose MPGs but on a custom tuned chip, the higher the power, the better mileage you get because on a turbo diesel, more power=more mileage IF you keep your foot out of it. Is that K&N you have the oiled kind? If so, not too good to have for your engine and turbo. |

Hey guys... Thanks for bringing this thread back up as I was thinking of something I needed to ask... I am looking at a much needed larger trailer for next year. I have always wanted a gooseneck trailer because I have heard they tow much better than a tag. I am looking at 36 ft goosenecks or 28 ft tags. The goosenecks are significantly more $$$ which is why the tag is still a consideration... Anyway, when towing a gooseneck trailer will the truck get better fuel economy because of the air being directed more over the trailer by the cab of the truck? It just seems with a tag trailer you have that big front wall and less aero efficiency... Maybe I am just searching for more reasons to justify the gooseneck... LOL!!! |

Please excuse the ignorance. The whole reason I searched for a site like this one is to learn all I can about these motors. |

Don't worry about it. This is probably one of the best places out there and we're all here to help, learn a lot, share experiences, and just have a good time sharing our diesel love |
