towing questions???

I am going to pick up a 25 foot trailer this weekend. I have never towed anything this long or heavy before. I wanted to know what I need to know when towing. Anything I shoud be aware of with a manual trans? How do I work and hook up my trailer brakes? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

there should be a gray connector under the dash to the right of the gauge cluster to plug your trailer brake into

Hey dieselbop, I moved this thread for ya. With the 6 spd you should have no issues. In my old truck that was a 6 speed, sometimes I would start in low rather than 1st, but that is really the only thing with that. That way you did not have to slip the clutch too much. If you have guages, I would put your superchips in tow safe. If not, I would return it to stock. Your trailer brake may take a little adjusting to get it right, but I have always just gone off feel for that. Not sure it that is the right way, but that has worked for me. Pull you Mirrors all the way out, and look at for the idiots. Other than that, you should be good to go.

You won't even know its back there I had a 22 ft trailer and towed it with my dads 02 before I bought my truck and it wasnt even working the truck at all. I don't know how to hook up trailer brakes, but Im sure somone will chime in who does.

Oh, I just saw that you have the commander. Just keep those EGTs under 1250 and your good.

As long as you have trailer brakes on your trailer it will send a signal when you hit the brake pedal to apply the brakes on the trailer to help you slow down and save your brakes on the truck.

There should be a adjustment nob on your trailer brake controller to increase or decrease the amount of brake pressure you put to the trailer, it depending on the weight of your load.

i found when towing my trailer to adjust it to where you could feel the trailer braking a little more than the truck, helped to keep everything in line for me, but do not have the trailer doing too much like the installer did mine, whoa, could barely touch the brake and the trailer was locking up.

i just got a new trailer brake system with the auto leveling and such it very sweet but the book sais to cruise at 25 mph and increase brake pressure on the controller until the trailer locks up then back it of a bit and its set. havent tried it yet but thats what the book sias
