I would worry a lot. Is the tube solid? I broke an 8" drop one with a 4,000 lb trailer. The hitch was rated for either 4,500 or 5,000 I do not remember. Scared the crap out of me. The safety chains held but the trailer hit my truck and ruined the bumper.

Yep and if it broke and cause an accident guess who is liable? Not the manufacturer of the hitch but you. My B&W is rated for 10k

yea that was in my mind. i was at this shop near me the other day looking for a higher rated ball mount and he has a 12k 8" drop. but then he ended up pointing out that my hitch on the truck is only a class 3 what gives. whats the point of rating the truck to tow more than waht the hitch is rated for.

Don't try it. This was UNDER the manufacturers ratings. The big drop hitches involve huge stresses due to the increased leverage. You can buy a solid 8" drop for $50 or so and be a lot safer.

its tongue weight you really have to worry about... that is probably what broke that hitch above as well as what has caused numerous problems for other people... the receiver mount will handle a little more than what they say, but the hitch itself will take a ton of stress when you have high tongue weight so I wouldnt ever go over rated tongue weight
