I agree that the tongue weight is what can be a killer but it was not that heavy when I broke this. Two people could pick up the tongue.

And stupid. If something went bad the lawyers would have had everything you own for the rest of your life.

I am not one that is "by the book" but you are just asking for trouble doing something like that. What if it busted off and killed a car full of kids?

Maybe it did I do not know. I do know I bought the hitch new and never overloaded it. I only had two trailers I pulled with it and both of them were withinspecs on gross and tongue weight.

I sent the hitch to the manufacturer and while they would not admit fault or explain why it happened they sent me a check to pay for all the damages.

I was thinking the hitch was rated for 1k tongue weitht and 10k towing.
Which I thought the truck was rated for 10k towing with a regular trailer, and 12.5k with a gooseneck.........
I would spend the extra to buy the better reciever.
Most recievers and hitches are rated for 1/2 of what they will handle. It protects the manufacturer.

That's what I thought but the sticker on the hitch itself says otherwise. And I think the 12k rating is for weight dis not goose. I think truck is rated somewhere in between 15-20k for goose

I don't think it is rated for that much. Check your owners manual. Dodge boasted 17k on a goose in like 2007 or 2008 and it was the biggest rating on a pick up to date if I'm not mistaken.
the duallys are rated for more on the goose.
