Since my quote was mentioned I'll respond in red....

September-Texas: Ticket Quota Memo Uncovered
Police officers in Midlothian, Texas received a written memo ordering them to issue twenty traffic citations each month. With more revenue, police officials believed they would be able to expand the small department. WFAA-TV in Dallas confirmed the quota’s existence through unnamed department sources, marking the second time this year a numeric traffic ticket quota has been uncovered in Ellis County.

Having posted this I will say after 4 pages of a google search there is very little in the way of Texas quotas confirmed.

"""" If Police have to write tickects (quotas) then stop the dirt bags whose stereos can be heard a block away, and cite them for disturbing the peace""""""

I think someone who has no REAL knowledge of the inner workings of Law enforcement feels this way. I believe this was directed my way, and no arguement about the inner workings of LE, but that doesn't change the way I feel. I hate having to sit and have my windows rattled at a stop light, by some little thug wanna be. Stop and ticket this little runt. I bet there's no liability insurance, maybe some drug paraphanalia, outstanding warrants, etc......Am I painting with a broad brush, yeah, but I stand by my beliefs. You see these people on the streets, I see them in the ER.

To be fair and balanced: More Tickets in Hard Times - Real Police: Law Enforcement,Police Officer,Criminal Justice,Background Checks website...

And no, I'm not talking about people who have a friend or had a past relative that used to be a cop or any of that. I dont consider that REAL knowledge. I am gonna give you just ONE example of many that blows that theory so far out of the water it is a disgrace.

During a traffic stop one night myself and another Officer pulled a car over for what most of you would consider a BS violation. During that contact and after extensive field interviewing the driver eventaully was identified as a man who had raped and killed a six year old girl. He was taken to jail, extradited, and has since been convicted of the crime.
Obviously a positive outcome.

SO before you all go giving your opinions and generalizing probably the most uncertain and unpredictable profession. Get some knowledge, and I mean broadbased knowledge. Not "I got pulled over one time" or " I had friend who was profiled by the Po Pos". Contact your local agency and see if they have a ride along program ( most do). Go more than once or twice. Expose yourself to REALITY in regards to this profession.

And before the flaming starts, YES there are ****ty Officers out there, I have helped weed some out myself. I am under no illusion that Police Officers are somehow superior to everyone else. We are just men and women out there handling what most people don't want to deal with. Most all of our contacts are of a negative nature and that's the reality of it.

And for those of you that were wondering what the traffic violation was that eventually lead to the apprehension of a child rapist and murderer, and quite possibly before he may have done it again, and God forbid to someone YOU know.

WINDOW TINT!
And just to clarify, I am not flaming the police. I don't get pulled over on anywhere near a frequent basis, and I don't "feel" as though I have ever been harrassed by a cop. When I have been pulled over the officers have always been professional..........whether they issued a citation or not. And fortunately, in my case, I have been given ample warnings vs. tickets.

I saw where you edited a little in this post. No worries and no offense or anything of that nature at all.
Craig

I hope nobody in any form or way takes my previous post as any type of "attack" against Texas R.N. I just wanted to state that publicly. I am going to chalk this up to a healthy debate and discussion.

First off, thanks for serving our community and doing what you do. And as far as catching that guy.........(about the 6yr old little girl), that's great. I think I speak for all the dad's on here(with daughters) when i say "burn'em alive".

But what made you want to pull his vehicle over? Was it the window tint and the type of vehicle, or just the window tint? If it were a superduty, lifted, clean looking truck, would you pull him over about his windows?

I think someone who has no REAL knowledge of the inner workings of Law enforcement feels this way:
Here in CA. You can get a ticket (misdemeanor violation) for disturbing the peace by playing your car stereo too loud. If it can be heard from 50 feet away it falls under PC 415(2) Making loud and unreasonable noise: willfully and maliciously distrubing another person by loud and unreasonable noise

Just a random stop for a minor violation. I guess maybe even out of boredom sometimes. Thats the wonderful thing about Officer discretion, you can bust butt one day and pull over everything that moves for simple insignificant things or you can choose to not stop anyone. The choice is the individual Officer's. I can tell you this with certainty i have found more drugs and arrested more people out of "clean" looking cars than out of the stereotypical bucket. I have written thousands of citations. The one thing that i hope people would understand is that it is NOT personal , no matter how much they make it personal in their own minds, it's not.

If you don't know the Officer then im sure you can bet he isn't just picking on YOU.

FACT: people do not like to get tickets, its inconvenient, costs money, costs time but it is necessary.

People dont really seem to mind until its them that gets one, thats really what it all boils down too.

Just face it a certain % of cops are dicks just as a certain % of the public are dicks. I have a couple of buddies in the Wisconsin State patrol they believe in letting a certain amount slide but then there are those who nit pick everything their just trying to assert themselves, or make themselves feel important. They dont realize its just another fricken job just like yours and mine only we cant carry guns in this state run by nutless politicians.(Wi)

My good friend is a California Highway Patrol officer, and he pulled over a speeder the other day on a stretch of I-580 where everyone goes 85-90. There was a group of about 20 cars all bunched up and he rolled up into the group and pulled over one of the cars.

The driver asked him "out of the entire group of cars why did you pull me over?" My friends response was : "ever been duck hunting? Out of a big flock of ducks, there is going to be one that you focus on. You're the one!"
Laughed my azz off when he told me that!
