Michigan has a mudflap law. But as long as your not lifted to tall, and don't have extreme size tires. You usually get left alone. Oh but Michigan does have a law that states your tires can not exceed the wheel well. |

The times I have been pulled over I was speeding, had an expired tag, inspection, etc (I DON'T consider these revenue generating)........I don't mouth of to the officer, it's just yes / no..... sir / ma'am. I try not to make the officers job any more difficult than it already is. Also, I am raising my 5 y/o ( & 2 y/o when the time comes) to respect the police. There is no "cop bashing" in our house. When we lived in Dallas and had to call the police (usually because of the Katrinians down the street) I stood outside and talked to them when they showed up, I didn't hide in my house. I made sure they knew it was me who called the cops on them. Just my .02 on this topic. Craig |

Most don't even realize when you pay a fine. The Police Department does not get that money. It does not go into a road fund, it does not go to buy new equipment. Nope it goes into a general fund to the state or city or township. Then it gets spent as the commission or board sees fit. It would be smart to find out where the money goes in your area. |

Well I can speak on Texas Law and not anywhere else, Quotas are ILLEGAL, in 15 years I have never been given a quota nor have I ordered my Officers to produce any type of quota, Tickets generate zero, I repeat 0 dollars for the departments. No comissioner, city council member, or any other govt. rep. for that matter has ever asked us to write more tickets or generate more revenue.
And to you Craig, I think you are one of the most level headed people on this board ( I read and respect alot of your posts and views on topics) and that post was in no way directed to you, what I do disagree with though, is this. """" If Police have to write tickects (quotas) then stop the dirt bags whose stereos can be heard a block away, and cite them for disturbing the peace"""""" I think someone who has no REAL knowledge of the inner workings of Law enforcement feels this way. And no, I'm not talking about people who have a friend or had a past relative that used to be a cop or any of that. I dont consider that REAL knowledge. I am gonna give you just ONE example of many that blows that theory so far out of the water it is a disgrace. During a traffic stop one night myself and another Officer pulled a car over for what most of you would consider a BS violation. During that contact and after extensive field interviewing the driver eventaully was identified as a man who had raped and killed a six year old girl. He was taken to jail, extradited, and has since been convicted of the crime. SO before you all go giving your opinions and generalizing probably the most uncertain and unpredictable profession. Get some knowledge, and I mean broadbased knowledge. Not "I got pulled over one time" or " I had friend who was profiled by the Po Pos". Contact your local agency and see if they have a ride along program ( most do). Go more than once or twice. Expose yourself to REALITY in regards to this profession. And before the flaming starts, YES there are ****ty Officers out there, I have helped weed some out myself. I am under no illusion that Police Officers are somehow superior to everyone else. We are just men and women out there handling what most people don't want to deal with. Most all of our contacts are of a negative nature and that's the reality of it. And for those of you that were wondering what the traffic violation was that eventually lead to the apprehension of a child rapist and murderer, and quite possibly before he may have done it again, and God forbid to someone YOU know. WINDOW TINT! Last edited by Drepka : 05-14-2009 at 10:52 AM. |
