How fast can diesel go? Shockwave knows.
If you don't know about the Shockwave, it is currently the world's fastest jet truck at 376 mph. It has also gotten down to 6.36 in the 1/4 mile.
And, yes, he is running diesel! He has also run biodiesel. When asked if there was a difference in performance between the two, he said not much if any. Normally, he races airplanes down the runway at airshows. This video is a night shot at the Jet Jam Night of Fire. YouTube - Shockwave, The World's Fastest Truck/Jet Jam Night Of Fire Cool video of some close-up shots of the jets and cab. YouTube - Shockwave If you want to ride it, save up. A ride in Shockwave will cost you $1500 (that was a couple years ago when I asked them). Here is a video of a guy that rode in it showing what they do to get ready for a run. That is very cool
Too bad they don't get the passenger's reaction after the ride. |

Diesel ? Looks like a jet engine burning jet fuel to me. Maybe im wrong ???

Nope. They are running diesel. Approximately 100 gallons per run.
The reason they use diesel is they don't have to worry about blowing up. Jet fuel is too volatile and expensive. They also wouldn't get all the cool smoke with jet fuel.

Last summer we had an airshow here at Elmendorf and he was running on JP8(jet fuel). But then again that was his only choice, we run JP8 in everything here. The only real difference between JP8 and diesel is that JP8 has some more additives in it to keep it from jelling. On base here that is all that we use for diesel trucks.

Since I work for the Transient Line at our base, we manage the airshow and handle all of the aircraft for it every yr and Shockwave has come to almost every show. Last yr, he gave free rides to two of the guys I work with. I didnt get a ride, but I got to turn up the truck and taxi him out to the active.
