i agree more people use the trail systems, but the difference:

most people that enjoy motorized off road activities (like myself) have a full time job that keeps them very occupied, and simply do not have the time and energy to fight the greenies.

the opposite end of the spectrum:
the greenies have very wealthy people that donate to "save the environment" or "save the (insert plant animal or mineral here)". those donation keep people PAID to be active in stopping any thing that might possibly in some weird way affect the environment in any way. they will see that video and show it to their fellow greenies, calling it typical "off roading" pointing out the vegitation being run over, the rock shearing off, any oil that may or may not have been left and any sort of litter that may or may not have been left. then you have a mob of pissed off hippies with nothing better to do than yell at a politician, who doesn't hear too much from the people that wheel since they are at work or spending money on their trucks, said politian then tries to get lands closed to motorized travel to shut up the greenies.

fo all i know that video could have been taken on mars, i don't know that it was public or private land, or if it was even in the united states..... and from what i have read on other boards the video is older than most of the greenies foundations.....

but anyway, here are some links that tell a bit about the struggle four wheelers are facing.

here is some poor scmuck getting beat up on for one of his first off road trips: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=92326

here is a good source of all sorts of info about keeping trails open, and even info on the people trying to close them.

I don't think these guys were aiming to tear up any land, and even with trucks that large and powerful you aren't going to hurt those boulders. Sure a couple of rocks may not be where they used to be, but if the greenery geeks had it their way you wouldn't be able to sweep off your own driveways.

the greenies are really starting to win the war out west, because of the attitude "this land is doing nothing". people cutting their own trail, then hundreds taking the new trail turning fields into gravel, killing grass and shrubs causing faster erosion of the land. thats all just ammo for the greenies to go with. if they show someone who doesn't have an interest either way a pic of a grassy field, then the same field with tire tracks and dirt instead of grass what do you think the person with no opinion will think? i;ll bet that person would get an opinion really quickly.

i have to agree with scout on this one. I dont know the land the video was made on, for all i know it might be designated off road terrain....BUT....

The fight for offroad land is a VERY tough one. Tree huggers (yes, i WILL use the not politically correct version) want to take it away, and more importanly, they raise enough money to PAY people to make it thier job to fight ALL off road use. THAT MEANS SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY PAY THIER BILLS WITH MONEY FROM FIGHTING ANY OFF ROAD USE. This hits close to home. i can list probably fifty different trails, etc that were closed because of this and uncountable roads...but the one that hit home the most is below...

I used to own a snomobile (sled or cat to a lot of people) that was VERY hot...mainly used for very dangerous back contry riding. Most of which was reffered to as high marking.....the long and the short of it is we ended up in a five year battle, where numerous snomobile assosiations combined with countless other off road organizations LOST 350 miles of snomobile tails and all ground in between. The "greenis" or "tree huggers" reason was we were damaging the forest and CAUSING EROSION by tearing up the SNOW....common sence tells you this is impssible..we wer tearing up nothing but frozen water that wouldnt be there in 1-4 months....BUT they won anyway..

Bottom line is you can not give any environmental group ANY ground to fight you with, no matter how fun or how minimal the REAL impact is...becuse they have too much funding BEFORE the added ammo....

there isn't a cop around here that'll be able to follow me in the backwoods in ther "explorer or durango" and when it comes down to it, people will still do it illegally, just like drugs. In fact, the more opposition, the more people will probably do it

I'm not posting anymore in the thread...

While It's just common sense to "Tread Lightly", some of these Enviro people are really taking it overboard sometimes. You're always going to have ignorant people out there tearing up the country, but that don't mean you make everything off limits to everyone by taking away more of our freedoms. The people who are tearing the country up now will be doing it when anything that isn't paved is illegal!!!!!???? That stuff they were climbing probably never got a second glance from passers by, that is the ones who weren't crawlers!
