The issue with splitting blocks has more to do with cylinder pressures and timing than anything else. It's not a block weakness factor.

Ben Miller's Double Overtime has hit over 1600 on an engine dyno. Good crankcase girdle, and some large studs on both the crank and heads kept that all together, and no problems splitting the block.

Ben told me at Scheids he has split a few blocks. Then again he's well beyond 1600 HP now, more like almost double that.
