911!!! HOLE IN TRANS!!!???

05 f350 6.0dsl 99k miles...just put a plow on not too long ago..ive pushed snow about 20hrs with it... a buddy called me telling me theres trans fluid trails all over his driveway that i plowed the night befor..sure enough i went out and there was a trial leading to a small puddle under my truck! i discoverd it was leaking out the trans pan gasket ONLY WHEN IN REVERSE. so i pulled the pan off and the gasket looked fine and the case looked ok then i noticed a small odd shaped hole that looked like it was worn in the case..also looked in the pan and theres fingernail clipping sized metal shavings all over..trans shifted fine and didnt make any odd noises ever so im not sure what happend..other thing i cant figure out is theres a hole in the case and the pan was leaking bad...how are the two issues related?!?!? has anyone ever seen this problem and what can i do about it!! thanks~!

hey bud i had the same problem as you do and it happened all at once(yesterday). the tech showed me the hole in the trans and said it would cost $4600 for the new trans. needless to say i have gotten rid of the truck and gone back to a gas truck for reliability reasons as the 6.0 has been nothing but problems from day one. keep me posted with what happens with your truck and good luck. oh yeah i belive there was a tsb regarding this problem heres a link 6.0 PowerStroke bulletins

trans.

mine started leaking from the pan gasket yesterday but i didn't see a hole I will look a little closer today I cant seem to get it to stop leaking even after a new gasket and then I tried the "right stuff" I might be torquing it down to much. I hope!

Right around those years ford had a problem where the reverse snap ring would break loose and make a hole in the side of the case:dunno. Some didn't get done and survived a while. We had one truck come in the other day with over 200k and it just let loose recently.Would only go when in reverse for the most part.
