Exclamation 97 7.3 e4od, wont shift into overdrive

Driving down the road today and it kicked out of overdrive. Limped it back to town, od light was flashing, went to Autozone to see if they could pull the codes (which they couldn't) so they tried to clear any codes they couldn't retrieve. After that it worked fine around town but heading out of town it up shifted into od about 40mph and started shuttering. I hit the od off button to kick it out til I got to the 55mph zone and I hit the button again for it to up shift but it wouldn't. This time the overdrive light is not flashing. What do y'all think it could be? The sensor on the drivers side of the transmission? The vss in rear axle wouldn't cause this would it? Speedometer doesn't jump around or anything. Just trying to get it by til I can get my zf5 in this spring. I've got new fluid and a filter for it but don't want to change it if its an external sensor or something. Ready to pull my hair out and dont have the $$ to hook it up to a scan tool at the local shops. Thanks guys.
