Tranny issues on 97 PSD (not shifting)

My brother just installed the tranny back in his 97 psd. It shifts to 2nd ok but won't shift any higher. everything is stock. Please help, Thanks Rick

Check the black plastic switch on the drivers side of the transmission. PRNDL switch. It could be shorted out. Mine was cracked on my 95 and shorted out in 2nd gear.
