this is my 3rd tranny!

i just put my third tranny in a couple weeks ago now its having problems again if i put it in drive, it will NOT go past 1st gear. if i then shift the selector into 2nd it goes into second just fine w/no slip or slam. then i shift into d/od and it goes into overdrive. so i basically have 3 gears and i have to manually shift them. what would cause that? no slips or slams anytime i shift it just doesnt do it by itself.

oh yeah i should add... i smelled something electrical burning/melting on the freeway the day before this happened. is there a fuse or something that will keep it from shifting right? maybe a short somewhere?

hey thanks for the help guys. i climbed underneath and found a spot where the wiring harness was rubbing the front driveshaft... it had a couple of broken wires so i fixed them and that took care of the tranny shift problem. now. but the electronic 4x4 still wont turn on... maybe i blew a fuse? does anyone know where the fuse is for the 4x4? it did blow my reverse lights fuse and i found and replaced that but it didnt fix the 4x4 not goin in.
