99 f250 shifter problems

I bought this truck used and knew it had some problems, here is one. Its an automatic 4wd, shift lever was bad loose and you had to fiddle with it to get into gear. I found a thread about tightening up the two bolts at the end of the shifter. Thought that would fix it, it was better but is not fixed. It is still hard to get into park and Saturday it hung in park and I had a hard time getting it into gear. I think what happened is the previous owner just drove it with the shifter loose and that he might have ruined it. Does anybody have a tear down article on the steering column or any ideas about what to do? Thanks, I don't want to get stranded somewhere.
