'04 Excursion No power, won't shift into high gear
Hello,
We just purchased a 2004 6.o diesel excursion with 115,000 miles on it. For the last 2 weeks, it has ran great. This morning while driving to work, I heard a '"pop" and the the truck lost power. It will not go faster than 45 mph and it doesn't seem like it will shift out of 3rd gear...won't go past 2600rpm. It still runs smooth and sounds normal. It just doesn't have any power and will not shift into high gear...... any thoughts? We are planning a 600 mile drive to reno in a week. HELP! Thanks |

Any idea whats going on in the motor with a monitor? Is it getting boost? FICM voltage,ICP pressure?

No idea..... I do not think there is a boost. I think I will need to take it in to the repair shop

sounds like an intercooler boot to me. Is the check engine light on, if it was getting no boost it would have no power but usually I see it throws a low boost code and turns the light on.

Thats what I was thinking. The "POP" was probably a silicone coupler letting go.

There is no check engine light and the boots are still connected. A boot "blew off" a couple of weeks ago....it had the associated loud wind noise and no power ...the check engine light came on. This time I do not hear the "whine" of the turbo...it has no power and will not go above 2600 rpms even when floored.

Do you have any gauges on the truck? What boost is it running while floored? Is there any smoke, my guess is still turbo or boost problems, but who am I to say.
