1997 psd e40d with slow or no shifting

Hi and thanks in advance. I bought this truck that had been sittin for about 3 yrs. I got i bck in running shape except the tranny shifts bad between first and second. More specifically, the first time i crank it in the morning and start it shifts ok between 1st and 2nd. Every time after that i have to wind it out in first and then take foot off accelerator for it to change. If im going uphill this trick wont work. I dropped pan and changed filter and refilled with transmission fluid. Still does the same.
Any help?????
