96 auto PSD shifting hard

I have read all I can on this and still confused. Please help! Speedo was bouncing so I read about VSS...put one in from Ford and bounce got worse...dealer said maybe connector was corroded so I dremeled housing open and soldered onto pins...no better. Is it the PSOM???...I drove today with no cluster and it seems to have the same hard shift just later...should I order one from ebay to hope it fixes it?...I read the PSOM gives an output to all the modules and if its no good the tranny goes nuts...also my cruise disengages above 50 mph when speedo started to drop back 15+ mph...also, speedo was missing some screws so I know it has been messed with...any opinions would help...need to get on the road without whiplash soon.....THX
