need my own diagnostic kit

Coming home the other night my OD light began flashing. Truck drives ok, but does shift a bit harder. (I had to drive 30 miles after the light began flashing) Problem is, I live 98 miles from nearest dealer, NAPA, or Auto Zone store. It is 49 miles to the nearest gas station. Rather than risk additional damage to my tranny, I would like to get the diagnostic meter, or whatever it is called and check the codes myself here at the house. Anyone know what model, make etc. I should have? How about sources for that sort of equiptment? thanks, twodot (97 Super Cab F 350 4x4 7.3 automatic)

Auto Enginuity is the way to go, it does more than just scan for codes.

Thank you guys! I will go there and see what I can come up with. This is just the sort of lead that I was hoping for. Now if I can just be this lucky with the diagnosis. twodot
