Tranny won't engage

Im a newb here on this forum but it seemed to b the best place togo to get real advice.

I have an 04 f250 crew cab 6.0 2wd. I was going down the highway today and allof a sudden my truck just shut off so i coasted to the shoulder put it in park and cranked it a few times. it would start, rough idle then die.on the third try, it fired right up no more problems. I went to put it in gear and it will not go. It idles down just a bit like its engaging but not fully. I didnt hear any grinding or anything else of that nature. PLEASE HELP with my diagnosis. Fluid levels are good and clean. trans temp normal. No forward or reverse gears. thanks very much
