No reverse.....HELP

Alright here goes, was coming back from wally, put truck in reverse, goosed her a little to get over curb, and it felt like my TC locked up, and she tried to die . Backed her in and played a round for a few minutes with her, she would die out in reverse, sometimes not. Then I completely lost reverse, but if i goose her a little, reverse comes back, then tries to die, ill shift out of reverse, then no reverse again. I have a bad feeling about this one, hope im not looking at a complete rebuild, if that is the case, im screwed. Any help would be great. BTW, D 2 1 work great, doesn't die in park or neutral or drive, just reverse when it's there. Thanks guys.....

I haven't worked with transmissions much. but i might not be a bad idea to pull the pan and clean the valve body.

Fluid level right up to full when hot? if so, pull pan and inspect filter for cracks above fluid level. if she sucks air, she'll lock up the converter in reverse and stall engine. I have seen some brand x filters that had fallen down due to being a little too short, and poor fit on the seal.
