Yes, it is located on the tranny. It is located on the front of the trans pump. where the shaft is that comes out of the tranny, it goes around that shaft, when you install the tc it seals the tc shaft so it don't leak oil from that location. It pops off and you can pop a new one on. The seal only costs 2 bucks and it is usually reffered to as input tranny seal, or tranny pump seal.

Stroker97, Bigc Is Right On The Money. When You Look In The Bellhousing, You Will See The Input Shaft Coming Out Of The Trans. Around It You Will See The Sealther Will Be An Air Gap Between The Shaft And Seal Where The Convertor Snout Goes In. Another Little Piece Of Advice, On The Inside Of The Seal, There Is A Spring That Fits Around The Rubber Part To Keep It Tight Against The Convertor. To Keep From Knocking The Spring Off During Installation, Coat It Liberally With Vaseline. This Will Act Like A "glue" To Hold The Spring In Place. Make Sure That You Use Vaseline And Not Regualr Grease. Vaseline Has A Very Low Melting Temp And Will Dissolve Quickly In The Trans Fluid And It Will Not Harm Anything. |

If it's a rebuilt one, it already has a new seal on it( the pump). I never put more than 1/2 quart in the converter. The very first place fluid flowes out of the pump when you start it up is in the converter. But, I allways put 8 quarts of fluid in the trans before I start the eng.. it will show way over full at that point but it gets the fluid up into all the moveing parts. Preston

Forgot to answer your other question. The parts you are seeing inside the converter is the stator. It centers itself on the large set of splines on the pump when you install the converter. Preston
