Reg Trailer In Maine For $90 For 5 Years Is It True...

I was told by a friend of mine that there is a company in Maine that will allow you to register your trailer in Maine for a $90 fee. In doing this you don't pay taxes on it and instead of say for example Maryland you pay $160 every two years you pay $90 every 5 years.

Has anyone ever heard of this.

Yup, notice a lot of private trailers around here locally... they'll say "Maine" but the truck will be tagged in Maryland

Really I though he was all BS. Interesting. Any problems if you get caught doing it.

I know some people start an LLC in Montana and register vehicles through there.

Alot of tour buses used to do this through Oregon till someone is Oregon complained, so everyone moved and Oregon lost all that registration money.

MBI Trailers - Maine Trailer Registrations

You'll also need to pay the $40-ish titling fee. But yes, works best when you first buy a trailer so you can avoid the sales tax and registration fees of your state.
