Shawn, I didn't know your wife was in insurance (agent or claims?) ha - I'm a licensed adjuster in Oklahoma

And Robert - I'm still sticking with my DRW vote <<---- had to keep the post on topic somehow

IIRC 450's + also have a beefier frame. But other than that the only difference is axels and springs.

250's and 350 SRW's run a sterling 10.25. 350 DRW run the Dana 80. I'm not sure if the 450 runs the Dana 80 also or the Dana 110. I know the 550's run the Dana 110.

Or I could be completely wrong but I'm pretty sure that's the way they are.

This is my work truck................

So I will try to add a little personal experiance. Def go with DRW and 4:10 gears are the ones you want, the 4:30s that come with the tow boss package are way to low unless your total gross wieght is 30k or more. The differece in the way a SRW and a DRW handles a big trailer is night and day.
Now here is the kick in the head, if you really want to handle a load buy a Cab & Chassis the spring packs on a C&C are twice as big as the ones on a DRW with a dually bed yet they both have the same gvwr. But ther difference in handling a trailer is again night and day!

I forgot to answer your question. Yes, your theory is correct, but my point is above.
GREAT information! as citizens, and not professional truckers we tend to forget about that type stuff.

And sadly, a lot of weekend warriors or older folks get in trouble because they don't watch the weights of their rigs, they think just because their truck can pull it, their ok.

We pulled a 50' Mobile home with our 1979 F-250 when I was like 12 yo (40 yo now) She had Granny gear, and would move about ANYTHING! It pulled it like a champ. It had no where near the capacity the new f250's now have. As a matter of fact, it had about the same capacity that my wife's f150 now has! Except the Granny gear of course! We also had a 1978 E250 with a 460cid in it, and that thing would MOTIVATE!!!
