Wheel bearings??

well i have an ancient 1976 circle j horse trailer, still rolls n pulls nice, but im pretty sure i have a wheel bearing going out, when im driving it'll make this terrible grinding screech noise for a few seconds then stop, then today when i was nearly home(horse in trailer) it literally hopped off the ground like the wheel had seized for a second and then started turning again. it scared the hell outta me. just making sure im on the right track... what ya'll think?

Take that sucker apart!

It would be scary to think it actually "welded" to the axle for a second and broke loose. I use one of those non-contact pyrometer laser thingys to get an idea what's going on with my trailer. After driving for a bit I point it and compare wheel/hub temps to get an early idea of trouble.

It's also a Great way to adjust trailer brakes. I put a "click" or two ON the coldest and OFF the hottest 'till they're all within 10 degrees of each other
