Are you still looking for a car? I'm thinking of getting rid of my project car. It's a 86 mustang lx hatch. Has a 460 engine and c6 transmission. Most of the interior is stripped. Car was raceable before I started to go back through it. I started dirt racing again and havent taken the time to put it all back together. It ran 7.30s in the 1/8th with the stock gears on all motor. Needs some work to get back to the track. If youre interested let me know I'll sell it cheap.

Here is a link to my very first pass on the new motor last year. vMix - Member (DTW451) - Video Maybe the link will work.
Ran a 7.70 in this video. Slicks were worn out and I had a converter in it that was way too tight. That was the only time I ran it last year, and I've only ran it twice this year. Best so far is a 6.58. This car is still 100% street legal too. I could get a lot more out of it if it was race only. 74 nova, 468 BBC all motor no bottle, 400 turbo, 373 gears. It's mainly a weekend cruiser and import killer.

Cj I'm not telling ya what to do .. Just letting ya know be carefull when buying something like this

I have seen guys say whatever it takes to sell a drag car and they will snow blind ya unless its someone you can trust..I had a real good friend buy a 70 Torino that was powered by a 429 told had clevite bearings, je pistons, comp cams valve train with undercut ss valves double roller chain yada yada yada.. well the 4th time out he oiled the track down I tore into his gem 429 to find speedpro cam, single timing chain, no undercut valves, keith black silvolite pistons, and sealed power bearings a.k.a Federal-Mogul .. regardless to say it was a bad choice for him... now on the other hand the positive to this is I got him running with good stuff and good reliable power but at his expense...there was no way to check this stuff with out pulling the motor before buying either.. thats the sad thing.. recipts dont always mean much either I could have given all my recipts to someone and they could claim the 460 in their car was really my 514 its visually the same

I'd say buy your buddy's stang! You know what he has and hopefully you already trust him!! He has already spent his wad and sweat on it and you can still put your touches on it and paint it to your liking. Project cars are fun to build......when yer younger and got more time......hehe Good Luck!! At least you do have some support from your bride!

I would have to agree on buying from some one you know and trust in the race world! there are alot of people out there just trying to make their cars more than they are and will tell you anything to get more money out of it! the best thing to do is start from scratch I know it is alot more money but you will ultimately be happier with the build and know everything about the vehicle! Good luck with what ever you try!

Don't go with any unibody car like a nova unless you want to build a frame to put under the rest of the car. Any amount of torque will rip the stock frame out.

7.5sec 1/8th shouldnt cost too much to make with a strong small block.
We run an 80 malibu all stock body, bumpers and all... 454 bbc .100 over on alchy, stock glide tranny w/transbrake, 9in ford w/ minitub

we run 6.5's but we're spinnin' all the way down the track.

You shouldn't have any problem with the late 80's cutlass's. I had one and it was a full frame car.

If you're gonna run a 3speed I'd get like a .411 or .456 gear rear and see what that does.

I would definately suggest gettin a transbrake installed so you can get a quick 60'. That's where most of your time is at: leaving the line....
