Looking into buying

Me and the Mrs. are looking into buying a bumper pull trailer. :drive: We would like a trailer with ample room including possibly bunk beds/rooms. We are looking for something worth while but not necessarily high end. We are looking at keeping it for a period of time and eventually trading it in on a fifth wheel. Thoughts?

None of us can afford a travel trailer, that would cut into MOD money lol.

An uncle of mine use to have a few trailers. He always said to check the roof. I guess when the seems start to fail you can get alot of water damage in the walls.

We have a jayco pop up and it's great definetly recomend it. They have everything from pop ups to big fith wheels. They are more designed with function rather than style i think.

Most travel trailers today come with rubber(epdm I think) roofs and if not - you'll want one. They resist impact damage and can be patched easier if they do end up damaged.

Also - decide if you want a "lite" travel trailer - the basic difference is that instead of 1x2 studs, they use 1x1 studs or aluminum framing. This saves on weight.

If you want bunk beds - you will need to search for bunk house type trailers - and are usually in the rear of the trailer... but not all. Some trailers have the bunks on the side and a room or bathroom next to them w/a seperate bedroom.. ITs all about picking the floorplan you think you will enjoy.

And as always - you get what you pay for. All low end to medium quality trailers will use the same types of materials (laminate wood & countertops) instead of real wood, etc. And should last as long as you need it to as long as it is maintained. No need to spend as much as a house for one of these things!

Another good thing is try to find an '06 or '07 that is still on a lot now that they are selling '08's. Dealerships may offer huge discounts to try to move the last trailer in their inventory...

Hope this helps and good luck!

I'm with WeWille-we are pretty happy with Jayco so far.

We have the 27BH model. It has bunks and a queen bed, but no slide. There are a couple of outside photos of it in my garage. If you want something a bit bigger, the 29BHS is a little longer (29') and has a slideout.

Good luck with the camper search

Thanks for all of the advice. I want something alittle smaller and the wife wants something bigger so today we are going to go to about a dozen different lots and look at all kinds of trailers. Hopefully we can find something that we can agree on and afford.

One other question how much are tags on these things? I know that it varies by state but a round number would help.
