trailer plug wiring diagram

My cousin has an 01 f350 and he needs to have his 7pin plug re wired. It was missing the plug but the wiring harness is there. If I knew what wire did what I'd be fine I just need to know what they all are. Thanks

This is an old thread but I thought I'd post and describe what my truck has for factory wire colors on the back of the 7 blade plug in case someone looks this up in the future. I found another thread for a 95-98 truck and a few of the colors were different. My truck is a 1999.5 F250 7.3 diesel with factory ford plug socket.

I figured this wiring out by removing the wiring harness from the plug. When it's connected up the wires are rotated a little bit from where the blades are so it was tough to tell which connector went to which wire.

Wire Color-function
orange-trailer charge when ignition on
white-ground
black/lt green-backup lamps
brown/white-running lamps
dark green-right signal

these two were reversed compared to the post on the 95-98 truck I saw
blue-left signal
yellow-brake controller

One could just go to auto zone or your choice that sells Hopkins trailer hitch supplies and get a new plug. Plugs into factory harness. 7 blade plug and play.. Part # 40940 and should be $15-20.. Fits 99-11 f series..
