Injector replaced, why did go bad?
Hello Powerstrokers, I am new and have a question regarding what might have happened to an injector on our ride from NY to FL this fall. We have a 2000 F350 Turbo with 140K. In Oct 07 we had a Bully Dog 6 position chip installed. We are pulling a 4 horse gooseneck, about 10k in weight loaded. We had plenty of power for the hills in PA and VA on I-81. We loved it.
This fall, we limped into Lexington VA with lots of smoke. Couldn't pull the grades on the local road and pulled over and got help. Had another truck take horses to farm and our truck could motor ok the last 10 mikes without the load. Took truck to a diesel shop and were lucky to get the correct #8 injector with the longer lead and got back on the road the next day. The power chip was not helping so we cut off 81 at Roanoke instead of continuing on 81 into NC with that 7 mile hill. We headed for 95 and the flats.
Would the Bully Dog contribute to burning out the injector? Did we make a mistake with buying the Bully Dog? I have read you guys have recommended other chips.
Do you know of any good shops in the Ocala area? My husband and I love our truck and just want to do the right thing.
I appreciate any info you can share. I feel like I am reaching critical mass in my knowledge when I read some of your replies to folks!
