Under acceleration the pinion climbs the ring gear which causes the springs to wrap. Which will make the u-joints out of phase, the carrier drop is only designed to maintain the phasing of the joints. Pinion angle is still critical yes, but by putting traction bars on it will eliminate the wrap which will not allow the u-joints to get out of phase.
