95 f250 4x4 steering box issue? Need new one?

Hey all, just bought a 95 w 157k on it and there is almost 90 degrees of play in the steering wheel driving, maybe 45 deg. sitting. The steering wheel can turn 1/4 turn before the pittman arm moves. The pump isnt making noise, and the joints are all stable but could use new ball joint seals, the steering column feels like it has a sticky/rough spot in it when moving from center (flex coupling is solid on steering shaft). Can someone give me a definite answer on the steering gear box replacement before I go down the rabbit hole with my debit card at Napa? Thanks in advance for advice, and also any shortcuts to swapping it out.

{update}....

Today I followed my gut feeling that the steering column in my truck was shot. I was right. What was left of the carrier bearings for the interior part of the steering shaft was falling out of the column...literally piece by piece. The column is a litle scored, the bearings were shot to death, and I have a half day into it so far to put it back together. I had no idea there could be so many broken items behind one steering wheel. With that being said, the tie rod ends are f-ed up as well...gotta for replace them as well.

If any of you guys have questions about symptoms of this issue of mine I am repairing, feel free to ask.
