SOS steering column replacement

So yesterday on my way to work I found there was no longer any bearing left in my steering column. I knew something was wrong before because my turn signals started not turning themselves off along with a pile of metal shavings on the fuse panel cover. So I tore into. Starting with taking off the airbag, steering wheel and clock spring. The chilton didnt say anything about removing dash panels so I didn't, but it was like a hour of wrestling that thing out of there and it didn't feel right. So I got a total steering column used and it already had the steering wheel and all trim together( guess I didn't have to remove mine). I fought this thing for hours last night trying to wrestle it in there but no luck. I also bumped the clock spring and it came apart so can I just set it like a steering box to be in the middle? I am really sick about this and I can't work until it gets fixed. Any advice or tips are incredibly appreciated, thank you
